• Unite the art with the science of living
  • Reconcile intuition with reason
  • Integrate knowledge into transformation

Mind and logic are the stars in life, essentially dominating everything until…

until something occurs in our life that requires more than our minds, more than logic.

The ‘something’ can be wonderful or the opposite. Love requires more than our minds. Hope, happiness, joy and trust require more than brains. Intuitive wisdom demands skills far beyond logic alone.

Fear, threat, insecurity, loneliness, worry, recovery, uncertainty, depression, grief, despair also require more than our minds.

Misalignments in life manifest as professional, spiritual, emotional, relational or physical dissonance and problems.

Why do some people thrive notwithstanding the most egregious experiences while others crumble and lead shadowy lives from seemingly inconsequential challenges?

How do we unite the art with the science of living? How do we reconcile our intuition with our reason integrating experiential knowledge and learning into awareness, change and transformation?

ExploreSpirit may open options and possibilities that otherwise would remain hidden.

Quote: “I wish that I could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness, the astonishing light of your own being.” Hafiz

Misalignments within ourselves manifest as professional, relational, spiritual, emotional and/or physical dissonance and problems in life. Is there a situation (good or not) which requires more than your brilliant mind to handle? Are there issues or misalignments that are presenting as difficulties? Are your values and beliefs in line with your choices and actions? Are you striving for alignment with life, self, others, true purpose, Spirit, the world or universe? Alone we may become entangled and myopic in our isolated thoughts, perhaps cycling and recycling. Our minds tend toward rationalizing, and we may think things are much better, far worse or actually quite different from how they truly are in reality. Our personal and professional confidants have their own desires; they (perhaps unconsciously) need our behaviour and choices to satisfy their own specific wishes, aspirations and security. An uninfluenced, authentic dialogue with those influenced by their own personal desires, wants and needs is simply not possible. We require an impartial companion. We (humans) require interaction, dialogue, conversation. We thrive in companionship. We need another to hear us, to see us, impartially, authentically without corrosion of self-interest.

Quote: “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” ― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

ExploreSpirit applies the ancient art of spiritual exploration to today’s world, today’s requirements, today’s dreams and today’s exigencies. There are many names: Spiritual Psychologist, Spiritual Companion, Spiritual Coach, Spiritual Director, Spiritual Advisor, Spiritual Guide, Soul Activist, Soul Coach, Chief Soul Officer, Spiritual Teacher, Spiritual Therapist, Spiritual Mentor, Spiritual Friend, Spiritual Consultant, Spiritual Explorer, Spiritual Confidant, Spiritual Counselor, Physician of the Soul, and on and on and on. And there are preconceived notions and prejudices about each nomenclature. The name is unimportant. Consultants, coaches, advisors, mentors, counselors, etc. are ubiquitously used in every aspect of our lives: we have personal trainers, business consultants, life coaches, professional mentors, nutritionists, therapists and teachers. There are personal and professional advisors, strategists and therapists of every category and style dealing with everything; everything but our essence. The ancient tradition of spiritual companionship is found in almost every belief system. Analogous to the ‘spiritual friend’ relationship in Buddhism, ExploreSpirit confidentially companions a person on their journey in their search for meaning, peace, alignment and alliance with happiness. All issues, situations, challenges, sadness and joys can be brought to ExploreSpirit sessions. Spirit is found in all elements of life; you are whole and your whole life is important: your relationships, your feelings, your health, your challenges, your profession, your sadness and your joys. You create the agenda, this is about you, your life, what it is and what you want it to be. This exploration may open options and possibilities that might otherwise remain hidden

Quote: “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” Albert Einstein

The ancient tradition of spiritual companionship is found in almost every belief system. Spirituality is ubiquitous regardless (and sometimes, in spite) of religion. “Spirituality is our way of being in the world, both within, in our interiority, and without, in our interactions and connections with the outer world through our words, thoughts and deeds”. “Spirituality is our deepest values and desires, the very core of our being” Gerald May, Psychiatrist, Author, Spiritual Director “Spirituality is heart knowledge” David Ariel, Jewish Scholar "Sometimes people get the mistaken notion that spirituality is a separate department of life, the penthouse of our existence. But rightly understood, it is a vital awareness that pervades all realms of our being…To be vital, awake, aware, in all areas of our lives, is the task that is never accomplished, but it remains the goal." Brother David Steindl-Rast, Benedictine Monk, Author “God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him” St. Peter (Acts 10:34-35) “Religions are like separate fingers and are quite distinct with different revered teachers, sacred texts, dogmas and rituals. But if you trace each finger to its source, the palm of the hand, you see that religions all come together in their depths.” Bede Griffiths, Benedictine Camaldolese Monk, Christian Yogi, Hindu, Mystic, Theologian Christian Spiritual Direction: "The whole purpose of spiritual direction is to penetrate beneath the surface of a person’s life, to get behind the façade of conventional gestures and attitudes which one presents to the world, and to bring out one’s inner spiritual freedom, one’s inmost truth, which is what [Christians] call the likeness of Christ in one’s soul. This is an entirely supernatural (spiritual) thing, for the work of rescuing the inner person from automatism belongs first of all to the Holy Spirit." Thomas Merton, Trappist Monk Islamic Spiritual Direction: “Whoever travels without a guide, needs two hundred years for a two-day journey.” Rumi "Islam means to surrender to God in peace. The journey of surrender is the lifelong work...We need to bring Divinity into the center of our lives. The guidance, inspiration, and support of a spiritual director, spiritual teacher, or spiritual friend is crucial to this process” Jamal Rahman author of The Fragrance of Faith: The Enlightened Heart of Islam Sufism Spiritual Direction Sufism holds that while we transform and grow individually, profound challenges and changes require a ‘guide’ who listens and accompanies us on the sacred journey to actualize our inner, divine natures. The relationship with this companion is itself an expression of Divine will. Yogic School of Hinduism: “If you continually write out checks without depositing anything in your bank account, you will run out of money. So it is with your life. Without regular deposits of peace in your life account, you will run out of strength, calmness, and happiness. You will finally become bankrupt — emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. But daily communion with God will continually replenish your inner bankroll.” Paramahansa Yogananda

Quote: Seek the truth, not what is comfortable. See the real, not the easy.” Gerald May

Approach the process in the manner most true to your journey. Some are comfortable preparing with agenda in mind, while others prefer spontaneous conversation, or perhaps a hybrid approach beacons. There is not a ‘right’ nor ‘wrong’ way, only ‘your’ way. Give some thought to: • What brings you to spiritual exploration • What are you hoping for from these sessions • What is happening in your present life situation • What spiritual formation and theological education do you have • What is your personal experience tending your own prayer, meditation and contemplative life • What is your experience with working with a spiritual coach/director • What draws you to this experience at this time in your life • Where does your spirituality ‘fit’ in your daily life • What spiritual affiliation or denomination, if any, do you most identify with • How is the quality of your relationships (family, friends, colleagues, social groups) • How is work/study going • What interests you beyond your work, friends, family • What are your hobbies • How do you spend your time • What makes you happy/sad • What gives you the most joy • What are your ongoing or current struggles • Where do you see patterns that block or challenge you • What do you think a lot about • How do you feel about yourself • How do you see the world • How is your health • Trace your spiritual journey/faith story
